Basic Human Biology For Paul Ryan

H.R. 23: Sanctity of Human Life Act

113th Congress, 2013–2015. Text as of Jan 03, 2013 (Introduced).

SEC. 3. DEFINITIONS.

    For purposes of this Act:
      (1) FERTILIZATION- The term ‘fertilization’ means the process of a human spermatozoan penetrating the cell membrane of a human oocyte to create a human zygote, a one-celled human embryo, which is a new unique human being.

The Sanctity of Human Life Act describes a person as a fertilized "one-celled embryo." That does not exist in real life. When the egg and sperm come together, they are two haploid cells, called a ZYGOTE. After rapidly reproducing themselves, they become a Blastocyst. It is not an embryo until week three after conception, when cells specialize enough to start forming the brain, heart, and other organs.

SO, basically, this bill is about an imaginary creature, and if ever passed, it would mean nothing, except that congressmen don't understand elementary school biology or medical reality or what the hell they're talking about.

While they're at it, I'd like them to pass a law that says Unicorns are an endangered species, and if they need to eat you to live, you have to sacrifice yourself to them because they matter more than you. That's about the same thing as denying a woman an abortion, or certain birth control such as my IUD, so that an imaginary one-celled human can have legal rights.

In conclusion, this is what you get when you vote for people who put fundamentalism, profits, and a hunger for power, over science, women's rights, and things that actually exist.

  1. And yet, there will be religious people all over this because you, you can't kill BABIES! I'm waiting for the day people figure out that having sex period causes babies to die and sex being outlawed.

Very sad that this moron is from my state. *sigh*

  2. They might as well try to outlaw menstruation if they're going to be this ridiculous.

  3. No kidding! But, in order to do that, they would have to like have women go on birth control which is evil...

Reminds me of some of the stuff I read from a book on families in the middle ages (aka the DARK ages). There were a lot of myths about breastfeeding and sex and the church pretty much tried to outlaw any sex during breastfeeding. Religion can really make some people lose their sense of logic!

  4. Oh I don't think religion is really the cause, I think it is the vehicle. There are always going to be people who try to control the freedoms of others because for some reason they have some sort of advantage (power, wealth, education, strength, or means of oppression as religion can be twisted into being). I have no doubt that Paul Ryan absolutely believes that what he is doing is right but religious fanatacism is just a symptom of the same tyrannical disease.

  5. That's why I chose to put "fundamentalism." I don't think religion is inherently wrong or at fault for ignorance.

  6. Why I said can because not everyone and not all religions cause people to lose their sense of logic but it can be the case though I agree that it is the excuse some people use to oppress others as well. :-)

  7. It is a scientific fact that human life begins at conception. It also follows that a human being is how we should define a "person" and therefore human rights begin at conception. The unborn child has his own unique DNA from the moment of conception. Before conception this being was not. After conception, this being was. If we don't draw the line at conception where should we draw it?

The development of human life is one place where religion and science agree.
"After fertilization has taken place a new human being has come into being. It is no longer a matter of taste or opinion...it is plain experimental evidence. Each individual has a very neat beginning, at conception."

Dr. Jerome Lejeune, "Father of Modern Genetics"

Here is a question. What do all these have in common? Zygote, Blastocyst, Embryo, Fetus, Infant, Toddler, Adolescent, Adult.

Answer: They are all just levels of development for human beings.

Just because you don't call someone a human doesn't mean it isn't. Just because someone looks different doesn't make it so either. Fetus is actually latin for unborn child.

16% of abortions occur in the first 6 weeks. 85% occur in the first 12 weeks. Which means that most children killed by abortion have a beating heart, brain, hands, feet, all the internal organs of an adult in various stages of development. At 9 weeks, a child will bend fingers around an object placed in his palm and suck his thumb.

  8. Dear Anonymous - thank you for your feedback. I'm afraid it missed an an important point:

This act is about a one-celled human embryo, which is an impossible being who does not exist.
